AR Sport HADO Demonstrates Moderate-Intensity Exercise (3.9 METs), Research Shows

Study presented at the 75th Annual Conference of the Japan Society of Physical Education, Health and Sport Sciences highlights both physical and psychological benefits.
Research on the physical and psychological effects of the AR sport HADO was presented at the 75th Annual Conference of the Japan Society of Physical Education, Health and Sport Sciences on August 29, 2025.
The study, titled “Quantifying Physical Activity Intensity and Psychological Effects in HADO,” was conducted jointly by KUL Co., Ltd. and Associate Professor Takahide Matsumoto of the Faculty of Education at Tokai University.
The research was carried out at HADO ARENA ÉCOLL IZUMI, a HADO experience facility operated by KUL in Osaka, Japan.

Moderate-Intensity Exercise Confirmed
The study measured the physical activity intensity and psychological state of 49 adult participants during HADO gameplay.
Results showed that the average activity intensity during an approximately 80-second HADO match reached 3.9 METs, which corresponds to moderate-intensity physical activity recommended by health authorities.

Positive Psychological Effects
In addition to the physical effects, psychological assessments using the Temporary Mood Scale (TMS) revealed positive changes after gameplay, including:
-
Increased vitality
-
Reduced confusion and stress

A New AR Sport with Health Benefits
The findings demonstrate that HADO is not only an immersive AR entertainment experience but also a sport that can contribute to both physical activity and mental well-being.
The research team plans to submit the results to an academic journal later this year.
