AR Sport HADO Introduced at Osaka High School Through Japan’s DX Education Initiative

Osaka Prefectural Fukui High School in Osaka has introduced the AR sport HADO as part of Japan’s “DX High School” initiative promoted by MEXT.
HADO combines physical movement with digital gameplay, allowing students to experience AR technology through team-based matches using AR headsets and arm sensors.
A Hands-on Approach to Education DX
The DX High School initiative promotes the development of educational environments that support AI, data science, and STEAM education.
In addition to ICT infrastructure such as cloud systems and learning platforms, schools are also introducing hands-on technologies that allow students to experience digital innovation directly.
Fukui High School explored ways to introduce a DX tool that students could experience physically, rather than limiting digital education to computer-based environments.
Designed for Physical Education Classes
To support classroom use, the school installed a two-court HADO setup that can accommodate classes of around 40 students.
This environment enables:
-
Team-based matches during classes
-
Reduced waiting time for students
-
Participation regardless of athletic ability
HADO is positioned at the school as a “DX learning tool that students can experience” through both physical activity and digital technology.

Teacher’s Comment
Teacher Himeji explained that the school was looking for a DX learning tool that would go beyond traditional computer-based learning.
“We wanted a DX tool that students could experience directly, rather than something limited to a computer or LAN classroom. HADO allows students to experience AR technology while participating in a sport with simple rules and minimal physical contact.”
The school also expects HADO to be accessible to students from diverse backgrounds, including those who require Japanese language support.
Future Plans
Fukui High School is considering several future uses for HADO, including:
-
Club activities
-
School events such as class tournaments
-
Demonstrations at open campus events
-
Friendly matches with other schools
Through these activities, the school hopes to communicate its education DX initiatives to students, visitors, and the wider community.
